Udupi: A group of around 30 to 40 people had allegedly abused and beaten up a 17 year old girl over a land dispute on January 19, Sunday. According to the sources the girl’s father too was thrashed and abused when he rushed to his daughter’s help. The accused are identified as Dheeraj, Suresh, Subya, Vishwanath, Sushant and Vanaja. Dheeraj is said to be a member of the Kutyar Gram Panchayat. The victim girl has also reported that one of the accused, Sushanth, was recording the incident. According to the sources, the father and daughter were taken to the Government Hospital at Shirva soon after they lodged a complaint, but they have not been provided any treatment. Shirva police had failed to act against the accused, which made the locals furious.The locals are planning a protest, if the police failed to arrest the accused. Read More....

Kundapur: Vijayshree, a student of Byndoor Govt.college has won the Kannada medium award for the academic year 2012-13 from State Govt.’s Kannada language Board. She got third place in the II PUC Kannada medium examination in Kundapur taluk. Vijayshree has received the Kannada medium award at Kannada language Authority office in Bangalore in the presence of Chief Minister Siddharamayya and other ministers.
